Sometimes, when you leave the Mi band unused for a month, it completely drains the battery. You will face the charging issue that time on your Mi Band. Your band won’t boot up easily, and you will find it’s not charging. But don’t worry. Your Mi Band isn’t dead. Whether you own the Mi Band 3 or 4, the steps mentioned in this post will fix the charging woes on your Mi Band and switch it on.

How Do I Know If Mi band Is Charging

Before we start the troubleshooting process, you should be aware of how to know if the band is charging or not. If the Mi Band is on, then you will see the charging symbol on your Mi Band as soon as you plug it in. Now let’s check the solutions to fix Mi Band not charging the first time or charge dead Mi Band.

1. Connect Properly

The main reason behind Mi Bands not charging is because of its incorrect position in the charging cable. To fix that, you need to make sure that the back area properly aligns with the charging cable. The cylindrical area at the back should align with the available space in the charging cable. If there is a space, Mi Band won’t charge. To avoid this, keep the backside of the Mi Band towards you while inserting it into the charging cable so that you can see its position. Also, push it hard into the charging cable so that it is fixed properly, and the connectors in your cable and Mi Band join together.

2. Keep It Connected for Some Time

If you have a new Mi Band that isn’t switching on or your Mi Band is completely discharged, you need to leave it untouched for some time (10-30 minutes) after it’s plugged in properly. It’s done because the Mi Band is fully discharged. So even if you plug it, you will not see any charging symbol quickly. Letting it charge for some time replenishes the battery. When that happens, the Mi Band black screen will vanish, and your band will switch on automatically. You will see the charging symbol. Then, charge it fully. Tip: In case after 30 minutes, the band doesn’t power on, remove from charging. Wait for 10-20 seconds. Then plug it back to charge it.

3. Clean Charging Pins

If the Mi Band still doesn’t charge after following the above solutions, it’s time to get your hands dirty. You need to clean the golden contact points of your Mi Band and the charging cable. You can either do it with cotton, tissue, or cloth by wiping them on the charging pins. Do this for a while to remove the dust. You might not see the dust from the naked eye, but it’s there. Once you have cleaned it, insert the Mi band into the charging cable, and hopefully, it would start charging normally. Pro Tip: Scratch the golden charging pins slightly with a scissor to remove any settled material.

4. Change Charging Method

If you have connected the charging cable to your PC or any other device, you should connect it to a phone charger (5V) and then charge it. Also, if you are already using a phone charger, try a different charger. You should also try charging it with a different charging cable if available with you.

5. Hit Mi Band

Many Mi Band users have suggested that hitting the band started the charging process. That might sound bizarre, but Asians would vouch for the fact that slightly hitting gadgets like remotes and now even fitness bands does solve the problem. So, hit or tap the Mi Band with your fingers gently while it’s connected to the power source.

How Long Should You Charge the Mi Band

If the Mi Band is dead or completely drained, you should charge it for 2-3 hours at least. You will see the full charge symbol on your Mi Band when the charge is completed.

How to Check Battery Percentage in Mi Band

To do so, tap on the band to activate it. Swipe up once. You will see the Steps. Now, swipe right till you see Battery. Alternatively, open the Mi Fit app and tap on Profile at the bottom. You will see the available battery percentage under your Mi Band. Tip: Find out how to sync Mi Band with the Samsung Health app.

Mi band will automatically turn on once it has sufficient charge. You don’t have to do anything.

How to Switch off Mi Band

Mi bands do not come with any button to turn them on or off. They will turn off automatically once the battery is drained completely.

Time to Replace

If it’s a new band and it fails to charge even after following the above steps, you need to replace it. In case you are having second thoughts about your Mi Band, you should check its comparison with bands like Samsung Galaxy Fit E and Honor Band 5. You might like one of those instead.
