1. It’s for a Limited Time
Yes, the data and voice-calling is unlimited, but for a period of 90 days. After your 3-month preview period, you will have to pay for both calls and data. We’ve tried to figure out how much this will cost, but so far, not a lot of information is forthcoming. Even in the MyJio app which we’ve installed on our test devices, we can’t see the rates for the plans listed for data/calls/SMS’.
2. All 4G Phones are Welcome, But..
There were reports earlier that any 4G enabled smartphone owner can get the Reliance Jio 4G SIM by submitting proper documents to Reliance Digital outlets. This is true, but in my own experience I noticed that the unlimited data offer was initially restricted to 2 GB only. Not wanting to take any chances, I switched the SIM to an LG phone which was enlisted officially to get the offer and voila, the MyJio app then confirmed that unlimited data activation. This may not always be the case, though. Your 4G phone might get the unlimited preview offer for 90 days without any hiccups.
3. More and More Brands are Joining in
Initially launched with only Samsung and LG phones, the Reliance Jio 4G Preview Offer is now spreading to almost all major brands. We have already heard of partnerships with ASUS, Panasonic, Micromax, YU, Alcatel and TCL. This list will keep changing as more and more brands would like to offset the advantage of this offer along with their handset.
4. 1 Year > 90 Days
You know what’s better than 3 months free unlimited data? A whole year of free unlimited data! And that’s exactly what you can expect if you buy a Lyf smartphone by (who else) Reliance. As per reports, this news is still unconfirmed by the brand itself, but if it does turn out to be true, it might come with FUP limitations of some kind. In any case, it’s a great deal to be had with a phone that costs less than Rs. 10,000.
5. Porting Ain’t Available. Yet.
If you want to use the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) scheme and get your existing mobile number ported to Reliance Jio, then bad luck. At the time of writing this piece, Jio representatives have said that MNP will be available only when the commercial launch of their services is official. And the date for that is yet not confirmed. So, the wait continues. The above article may contain affiliate links which help support Guiding Tech. However, it does not affect our editorial integrity. The content remains unbiased and authentic.
