What is Hooks?
Hooks is a notification delivery app. You sign up for alerts for an event and when it happens, you get notified. A new episode of Community is airing? You get a notification. A post made it to top 500 on Hacker News? You get a notification. And about a million more things. Here’s a brief overview of alerts you can get with Hooks:
Know when your favorite team is playing and know their final score.Track film releases from actors. New episodes from a TV show.New tweets from any Twitter account. New posts from any RSS feed.And of course, notifications from your favorite news sites.
How to Use Hooks
Using Hooks is pretty easy. The homescreen is going to be your inbox. Tap the + button and then tap Add to see a list of all alerts. It’s best to start browsing through the most popular ones. You’ll find a lot of useful stuff there. If that gets too tiring, just tap the Search button and start searching for what you want. Some alerts don’t require any advanced options. You click Add and that’s it. Some alerts like tweet alerts and RSS feed need you to specify the Twitter handle and RSS feed URL. Once you’ve added an alert, that’s it. You’ll now be notified about it.
Why Should You Use Hooks?
The concept behind this app is not novel. Yes, you can still get sports notification from a sports app, TV show notifications from a TV show tracker app and so on. But why install and fiddle with all those different apps when Hooks is going to do all of that for you just fine. Of course, here, all you get are notifications. If you want more than that, you’ll need a standalone app. But I’m sure, for the most of us, we don’t. Also, Hooks is a third party iOS app. It doesn’t integrate with iOS’s notification system so don’t expect the app to solve all your notification problems. In fact, if you’re not careful, the app can add to it.
